We worship a holy God. He is perfect in every way and greater than anyone and everything else on the earth. He has no comparison. His love for us, His creation, has no bounds.
In the Old Testament Moses speaks of his desire to tell others of God’s greatness and the hope he has in Him. He cannot be silent. Deuteronomy 32:1-4 says “Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak and let the earth hear the words of my mouth. May my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distill as the dew, like gentle rain upon the tender grass, and like showers upon the herb. For I will proclaim the name of the Lord; ascribe greatness to our God! “The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is He.”
The hope that he has in God will not allow Moses to be silent. How much greater is our hope? Jesus came to atone for our sins on the cross. We are made perfect in His spilled blood. Like Moses, are we compelled to proclaim the name of the Lord? Are we teaching others and sharing our hope in Christ with them?
Moses says that he wants his teaching to “drop as rain”, his speech to “distill as dew”. He describes it as a “gentle rain upon the tender grass, and like showers upon the herb.” This is a powerful picture of the impact we can have on others as we share the gospel with them.The rain and dew bring new life, new growth to the grass. They regenerate the grass that has withered and died under the heat of the sun. So too does the transforming work of Christ renew our lives when we turn to Him.
Have you ever noticed the dew sparkling on the crisp, browning grass of late summer? It brings much needed sustenance and, in the absence of rain, may be the only source of water for many days. Are we sharing our sustenance, our spring of living water, our hope in Christ with the people we meet in our lives?
Moses calls God his Rock and goes on to describe Him as perfect, just, faithful, without iniquity, and upright. There are so many more attributes that we could add based on our own experiences. First and foremost though, He is our Saviour! He sent His Son as a baby to earth, knowing that His sole purpose was to die for my sins upon the cross. What amazing, incomprehensible love. How can I not proclaim the hope I have to everyone that I meet?
