True to form, the year 2022 came in with an overwhelming rush of tasks to do, people with heartaches, and weariness from the holidays. In fact, I’ve felt overwhelmed for the past five months.
On January 21, I was struggling to make it through the stack of papers on my desk, emails, and tasks on my Daily To Do list. It seemed like a losing battle. A new email came in which said, “You are on my mind today. Praying for you to have a good day and experience the presence of Jesus throughout the day.”
My day changed after reading that email.
I cannot explain the delight I felt knowing that God had placed me on her heart, knowing that she was praying for me, and that she wanted to encourage me by sending me that email.
Such a small thing that completely changed me. My attitude changed. The cloud lifted and it seemed that I could work better. I even delighted in my work. I felt peace that, despite a long list of things to do and a large stack of papers, I would be able to get them done in time. I relaxed. I’m sure it was because of answered prayer. I did feel the presence of Jesus.
Five days later, I finally had a moment to record her email in my journal, Shouts of Joy. (That’s how overwhelmed I still am.) But, as I wrote it, I thought I should share it with each of you. This blog was supposed to be submitted 12 days ago. Again, overwhelmed. But in His time, God sent the inspiration I want to share with you today.
Small things can make a big impact in people’s lives. A quick email, which let me know someone cared, completely changed my day. I want this blog to do the same for you. I want to inspire you to ask God for small things you can do which will encourage His people.
Can you think of someone who could use kind words today? Someone who needs your prayers – and needs to know that you are praying for them? Who needs a listening ear? A sympathetic shoulder? A hug (virtual or in-person)?
Even if you are feeling overwhelmed, can you find the time to do something small to impact another’s life? Listen to the Spirit’s voice.
“Heavenly Father, You know each woman reading this blog today. Please give them a good day where they experience the presence of Jesus throughout the day. Give them hope, give them peace, and give them joy. Let us all remember to give You praise for the small things You allow us to do in Your service. Amen.”
